Ayla Sisco

Ayla is an Ojibwe descendant from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. She recently graduated from Central Michigan University with a B.S. in environmental studies and a certificate in environmental justice. She is currently pursuing an M.S. in environmental science. Her professional background includes gaining experience in tribal government related to natural resource management, specifically invasive species, water quality, forestry, public outreach and education, and culturally significant resource protection and restoration. Her academic background involves research pertaining to aquatic ecosystems and culturally significant resources. In her future career, she hopes to work with a Tribal entity protecting and restoring natural resources. During her time as a columnist with the Indigenous Foundation, she hopes to learn from her colleagues about environmental issues that negatively impact Indigenous communities, and work to spread awareness about these issues to further facilitate solutions.
