<image:title>Articles - The Impact of Wildfires on Indigenous Communities - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Wildfires in California: There are wildfires currently raging in California. Indigenous conservation methods are being used, and prove to be extremely effective, as Indigenous stewardship methods can create a drastic change when it comes to the climate crisis. Yet, at the same time, use of Indigenous conservation methods by non-Indigenous folks when it comes to curbing the wildfires in California pose a grave reminder of the genocide and forced removal of Indigenous practices that have existed, and the many years that Indigenous peoples were banned from using practices such as these.</image:caption>

Inspired by the women and femme’s in her life, combined with her love of writing, Liza is determined to record the stories of such admirable figures. In her own life, she grew up unaware of her Indigenous roots and strives to reclaim her Kaqchikel heritage. In a current world full of injustice and oppression, it is necessary to not just advocate and fight, but to inspire and honor the communities we support. She thus works with TIF as a writer in the hopes of writing pieces that both advocate and celebrate. Liza currently plans to turn passions into careers, studying English, Media Studies and Business in NYC. In her personal time, life becomes a DIY project through various hobbies of crafts, sewing, baking and jewelry making.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Meet Bella - Bella Lee-Rojas Columnist + Projects Team</image:title>
<image:caption>Bella Lee-Rojas is a 16 year-old multi-racial (Chinese, Turkish/Iranian, and Indigenous) girl from the San Francisco Bay Area. She first became interested in Indigenous culture through her love of history and desire to explore her grandmother's Cherokee and Choctaw roots. Bella is particularly interested in the intersection between history, law, and social justice. She believes that clearer education and acknowledgment of historical events can inspire activism. Moreover, critically examining history is the fundamental step in correcting a legacy of injustice and misrepresentation of Indigenous peoples and culture. As a part of the writing and projects team at TIF, Bella hopes to dive into current inequities Indigenous communities face. Additionally, she aims to shed light on the historical presidents laying the foundation for the continued oppression of native peoples. After high school, Bella plans to attend university to study Native American and Postcolonial Studies. In her free time she also enjoys reading, baking, hiking, and backpacking.</image:caption>
